What Do You Really Want?

Do you know what you want in life going forward from today?

Over the past few months I have had the opportunity to reflect on where I want to focus my energies going forward, the sort of work I want to be doing and the type of organisation I want to work for. I feel quite fortunate that I have had the time and space to think about those things and to come to some conclusions.

However, even in the rush of our daily lives we can find some time just to stop and think about what we really want from life can’t we? Whether it’s when travelling by train, taking some time at the weekend to go for a walk or just quietly sat in a corner at some point in the day.

Perhaps you don’t know what you want or are having trouble getting crystal clear on it.

Questions To Ask Yourself

Here are a few questions to ask yourself if you have no idea what you really desire in life.

  1. What would you like to learn even without the intention of using it in your working life? What skills have you always admired in other that are afraid to try yourself?
  2. Who are five people you admire or envy the most and why? Now turn it around. What would you like people to admire about you?
  3. What did you enjoy doing as a child? Are still interested in those things? I was prompted to put this article together today by the focus on Farming on Twitter (#Farm24 was the hashtag!) because when I was a child I wanted to follow previous generations and be a Farmer!
  4. What can your life look like? How can you become that and how does it look?
  5. What can you say yes to? Which opportunity, project, move, or interest can you say yes to even if it’s scary?
  6. What do you feel that you would to be like in the future? How do you act? What are you doing? Where are you in life? How do you feel?
  7. What do you want in life? Create a list of things you do want in your life instead of what you don’t want.

Use these questions as a guide to getting clear on what you want.
